Meeting

The South Carolina Meat Goat Association's 4th Annual General Meeting was held at the Orangeburg Fairgrounds , Orangeburg, SC in the arena at 8:45 AM. President Larry Daves presided over the meeting.

The SCMGA will conduct an All Breed Goat Sale on August 4, 2001 at the Orangeburg Stockyards, Orangeburg, SC. Members only may sell Anyone can buy. Information will be sent out in the July/August Newsletter.

The Fall show will be held at the Orangeburg Fairgounds, Orangeburg, SC on October 20, 2001 in conjunction with the County Fair. It is sanctioned by ABGA, International & The IBGA.

Preceding the SCMGA show will be the SC 4-H/FFA Wether Goat Final Show. Anton Ward will judge both Shows.

A slate of officers was presented: President, Larry Daves, Vice President Chuck Black, Secretary David Davidson and Treasurer Kathy Shultz, they were re-elected.

Field Day

The Field Day began with Dr. Pam Parnell speaking on the topic of Common Goat Diseases and services and fees available at the Diagnostic Lab, Ken Keyser of Custom Milling spoke of Custom Millings feed dewormer , Howard Vandijk addressed the SC 4-H/FFa Wether Goat Project, Ike Burch told of the proposed Slaughter facility for SC and Kevin Kent of the North Georgia Goat Co. demonstrated tools and technique on getting a goat ready for the show ring.

Eric Davidson was in charge of the raffle tickets for the prize of a F.B. Boer Buck, Bodacious Lee, donated by Misery Farm, Santee, SC, the winning ticket, drawn by JD Kneece, Junior member of the SCMGA belonged to Sherrie Huggins of Bishipville, SC. Orangeburg Milling, Custom Milling, Register Distributing Co, & Sydell donated door prizes. Exhibitors were located in the cattle barn, The Palmetto Dairy Goat Association, Mr. & Mrs. John Brannan, brought dairy goats to exhibit and had many goat related products for sale. The SCMGA 4th Annual Show was held on May 5, 2001 at the Orangeburg Fairgrounds, Orangeburg, SC. This was the first show to be sanctioned by all three Boer Goat registries. We thank Daryle Coates, Vice President of ABGA, Perry Hamm , Region Director of International, Jill Kelley & Janice Nodine, Representatives of The IBGA for attending and presenting ribbons. We would also like to thank Patricia Parson, Treasurer newsletter editor of the NEGMGA, Region 8 Director of the ABGA and International member, for taking over for Perry Hamm when he had to leave to attend to one of his goat that started to kid.

Two hundred and three goats were registered for the show. Ring stewards were Jack McCutchen, Prentis McDonald & Howard Vandijk. Show chairperson was Jerri McDonald, Class Co-ordinators, Chuck Black and David Davidson. Following is the list of classes and the owners of the winning animals.
