Youth Market Show at International Goat Days, Millington, TN

We were expecting a good turnout, even though the show was abbreviated to
include only classes for Youth, and only Market and Showmanship (no Breeding
classes), but the response was overwhelming! A total of 108 entries showed
on Sunday morning, with 44 in Showmanship (4 classes) and 64 in the Market
Classes. There were so many Market goats, in fact, that we hastily added an
additional Market class. Even with that, the Lightweight class had 27 goats
so it was necessary to show it in two sections, with the top goats in each
section competing for the ribbons and money.
Judge Marcia Gustafsen did a wonderful job. Many of the Youth in the
Showmanship classes were doing Showmanship for the first time, and Ms.
Gustafsen worked the classes so they were both competetive and
instructional. All the Youth (and their parental support teams) learned
quite a bit about conformation and structure from her "reasons" in the
Market classes.
When the judging was complete, a goat named "Sport" shown by Christopher Childress of West Lebanon, IN, was named Grand Champion, and "Bambi" shown by Erica Shafer for brother, Jesse, of Hattiesburg, MS. was Reserve.
