Dear Herdmaster,
My name is Jodie Oakley. I live in Hixon, British Columbia, Canada. I've had Boers for about 2 years.
We started out with one minature goat that was a birthday gift for my daughter. That one goat prompted me to purchase a goat book. Among the other thing I learned from the book was to take time when starting out with goats - look for a breed that you like and suits your expected uses for the animals.
So, I looked... It was Boers all the way! It took time to find a reputable breeder to buy stock from. I've made a few more purchases since.
I love my goats! We have about 11 acres and are still working on barns and fences. These animals are very hardy - it can get really cold here in the winter. I've had no big problems with the Boers - I spend a lot of time with them, doing chores, etc. They're very passive and easy for me to care for.
I'm finally in a position to start selling - I like them so much, though, that I want to keep them all. To me Boers are large, beautiful animals.
