e-mail: davidsonlivestock@wcnet.org President’s Perspective Kent Davidson OMGA President Another month has flown by and I am still behind. Cold
and wet
early in the month and warm and wet late makes it hard to get the
fieldwork done
and the manure hauled. I’ve talked to several breeders that fall kid and it seems many does went open, but those that did kid had a very respectable number of kids. Of our own Fullbloods, 50% of the exposed does kidded but had a 250% kid crop (lots of bucks) for us. The Vondrans, Amy and I attended Yvonne Blosser’s
AI clinic in
Hicksville. Geoff and Nancy Masterman of Superior Semen did a nice job
of
demonstrating the proper technique to AI. Now Lyle, Amy and Cassandra
are
prepared to tackle that job. I was fortunate to be able to talk to some
prospective new members and promote the OMGA. Since then, Lyle reports
“Bucky”
(the semen tank) is up and working. AI can be done by non-surgical
means, so if
you have a buck that you want to retain genetics from you should look
into
having him collected. I want to congratulate Karen Beamer Caldwell on her life
improving
divorce. Her name may have changed but she is still the best looking
half of
Black Swamp Farms. Well I can see by the old clock on the wall that the
batteries
have gone dead. I’ll write at you next
time. OMGA News and Reminders November

Editor’s Corner Amy Davidson
Here it is almost Thanksgiving time. Fall is such a
wonderful time
of the year with the changing colors and I enjoy the trip to the North
American
to watch the changing season. It’s also wonderful to see the
newborn goats
discover the world and when it’s this nice outside I wonder why we
kid during
the winter. But the junior fair youth need their wethers born after
January 1.
The OMGA is trying to put together some Junior shows for our youth.
It’s
important to keep them involved, they are our future. Besides the wether
shows,
we are working on some junior youth breeding shows. The details will be
worked
out through the committee that was set up and more details will follow
as they
develop. Welsh Boer Goats of Pennsylvania were having a herd
reduction sale
on November 8, 2003.They were offering 30-40 mature bred does and 30 doe
kids
that were born in December and January. I don’t know if they have
any goats
available, but if your interested please contact them at
724-663-7267. 2003 Meat Goat Events November 20 - North American International Livestock
