The meat goat industry has lost one of it's strongest and most effective advocates. Marvin Foster Shurley of Sonora, Texas, passed on April 20th after a battle with cancer. Services were held Thursday, April 23rd, in Sonora, Texas.
Marvin is survived by his wife Wanda and brother Mason ("MD").
He was President of AMGA for many years, ABGA member # 64, a member of TSGRA and of many more Goat related associations.
Marvin was the meat goat industry's voice in Washington, D.C., concerning the scrapie program, NAIS, and many other issues. His travels on behalf of the industry were paid for out of his own pocket.
Fred Vandermartin's comments reflect the feelings of many of us. "Marvin was an unassuming and polite man who carried on his work with passion and fortitude. He was an inspiration to me... to devote some of my time to educate folks about goats and to promote the caprine industry as a viable agricultural industry."
Thank you, Marvin, for your dedication and service to the industry.
